THE MARY A. DOBBINS SCHOOL
at
The Children's Home

Students and staff officially occupied the new, climate-controlled school building on April 15, 1996. The school replaces the old school facility which dates back to the 1930s.  The gymnasium was the last building added to the campus in 1978. Upgrades and renovations to the gymnasium that will include a new roof and classroom space for our new Cosmetology Vocational program will be complete by Februrary 2008.

The NJ State approved special education school will effect the consolidation of most classes in one building, and will enable school administration to expand the school curriculum and serve more students. The new, one-story, 11,000 square foot building will allow us to serve 80 students with 9 technology-wired and equipped classrooms, a computer lab, a multi-media library/learning center, and 5 offices. We offer a staff to student ratio of 1:4.

School enrollment includes the boys and girls who live at The Children's Home, and male and female students, ages 8 to 18, who commute on a daily basis from Camden, Trenton, Burlington County and other school districts. Presently, we are accepting applications for day students. Our students may be experiencing learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and emotional disturbances.

Our teaching staff has expanded school programs, and offers students new opportunities, such as Adaptive Physical Education, and a School to Work Transition Program. Students will, of course, continue to receive instruction in math, science, reading, language arts, consumer education, computer assisted instruction, social studies, health and physical education, vocational studies and distributive education that are aligned with New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards.

There is a reading tutorial program taught by a full time Reading Specialist, designed specifically for those students who are experiencing difficulties with reading and comprehension skills.

The Mary A. Dobbins School is large enough to provide a myriad of quality educational and therapeutic services, yet small enough that staff members know every student by name.

For more information about the Mary A. Dobbins School or to arrange for an admission to our facility, please contact Morris Summers, School Principal, at (609) 267-1550 ext. 153 or contact him by email at MorrisS@chbc.org.
